Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Turn to page 8 of this official 1978 International Series game program to discover the large bold, black signature of the best player to come out of the Soviet Union, Valery Kharlamov. During the 1972 Summit Series Kharlamov, along with teammate Vladislav Tretiak, became the talk of the hockey world. At Montreal in game one, a virtually unknown Kharlamov astonished Canadian fans and their star hockey team with his explosive speed, agility, and goal scoring prowess. Kharlamov died in an auto accident in 1981, making his autograph a scarce find in any form. The program, with Tretiak featured on the cover, is in very good to excellent condition and the lot also includes four vintage Russian-made pennants including one from the Moscow Dynamo and another from the famed Red Army team. Obtained from a Russian woman living in New York City and who got to "hang out" with several of the hockey players when they traveled to the United States.
