Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
The mystique that surrounds the untimely deaths of hockey greats like Terry Sawchuk and Tim Horton also drives the demand and prices for anything signed by Soviet hockey star Valery Kharlamov. Considered one of the greatest players of all time, Kharlamov was voted one of six players to the International Ice Hockey Federation's (IIHF) Centennial All-Star Team in a poll conducted by a group of 56 experts from 16 countries. Offered here are a pair of vintage photographs with the larger measuring 4.5 x 7" each signed on the verso by Kharlamov in vintage ballpoint. The larger of the two is in color and dated to 1978 and portrays Kharlamov with a group of his teammates. The smaller black and white image is a candid shot of Kharlamov enjoying some family time. Obtained from a Russian woman living in New York City and who got to "hang out" with several of the hockey players when they traveled to the United States.
