Sergei Makarov starred on the Soviet national team's dynamite KLM Line. Makarov, who was one of six players named to the IIHF All-Century team, teamed with linemates Vladimir Krutov and Hall of Fame center Igor Larionov to help lead the U.S.S.R. to two Olympic gold medals and eight world championship golds and the 1981 Canada Cup. This fascinating light mesh CCCP white jersey was worn by Makarov circa 1981. It features a loosely attached nameplate for a tournament or televised game, most likely at the world championships in Sweden. A rarely-seen gamer manufactured by Kisapuku with a size "54-56 L" laundry instruction fly tag in the back of the neck, it matches the style of jersey worn by the Soviets in an on-ice team photo celebrating their 1981 world championship win. There are a couple of big blood stains on the front of this #24 jersey directly beneath the "CCCP" spelled out in sewn-on red twill letters, the same material used for the numbers sewn on the back and both sleeves. Knit inserts surround each sleeve at the elbow as well as around the tail, which features a screened-on white diamond pattern which has a pinkish tinge from color bleeding. In addition to the bloodstains, more obvious game wear shows stick marks, board burns and team repairs on the bottom front and to the right of the numbers on the right sleeve along with blue and red paint transfer on the left sleeve. A number of smaller holes have not been repaired, including a slash in the knit insert band on the front and a tear at the bottom left corner of the "2" on the back. A great game-used CCCP jersey worn by one of the Soviet Union's biggest stars!
