This superb Canada Cup trophy was presented to Hall-of-Famer Vladislav Tretiak in 2006, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory in the 1981 tournament final. After failing to make it to the final round of the inaugural edition of the Canada Cup in 1976, the U.S.S.R. re-established its international dominance with an 8-1 win over Team Canada at the Montreal Forum on September 13. Tretiak was named the MVP of the 1981 Canada Cup as well as the tournament's all-star goalie after posting a 5-0-1 mark with a 1.33 goals-against-average and a .947 save percentage. Cast in 100 percent nickel, this solid and substantial award stands 10" tall. "Canada Cup 1981-2006" is stamped on the front of the base. This 25th anniversary award is the only Canada Cup ever presented to Tretiak since members of the champion Soviets did not receive individual trophies in 1981. It rests in the blue plush interior of its 13 1/2" square wood display box, which stands 3" tall and has a "Canada Cup 1981-2006" plaque on the cover and comes with a commemorative DVD. Vladislav Tretiak's signed letter of authenticity accompanies this magnificent Canada Cup trophy, which was obtained in 2009 at a Tretiak Foundation charity event.
