Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Great Canadiens teams of the 1970s are evoked with this lot of three game-used pieces from Larry Robinson, Marc Tardif and Rejean Houle. Robinson’s game-used Victoriaville dates from the 1970s, when Big Bird won the first five of his six Stanley Cups, incuding four straight from 1976-79. “L. Robinson” is printed in black letters on the front of this gamer, which retains Larry’s tape jobs on the knob and blade, which is cracked at the toe and chipped on the bottom edge of the heel. Otherwise intact, this Robinson gamers displays lots of game use, including green paint transfer on the back of the shaft. Marc Tardif had already won a pair of Stanley Cups with the Habs when he wielded this game-used Canadien stick late in his sensational 1975-76 season with the Quebec Nordiques. Tardif was named the WHA’s MVP after he led the league with 71 goals, 77 assists and 148 points. Date stamp on the back of the shaft reads “23 FEV. 1976”, just over a month before Tardif’s season was cut short by a vicious attack by Calgary’s Rick Jodzio in the Nords’ second playoff game. “Marc Tardif” and his number “8” are printed in blue on the front of the shaft, which retains Marc’s white tape job on the knob. His white tape job is also intact on the blade, which has a crack on the front edge of the toe where the fiberglass is separating from the wood. Rejean Houle’s game-used right glove has the number “15” he wore during his second stint with the Montreal Canadiens in bold black marker to the right of the CCM logo. “Peanut” has signed in black marker on the blue nylon cuff of this vintage Canadiens glove which displays nice game wear yet retains an intact and hole-free leather palm.
