Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Lot of two signed Joe Thornton pieces includes his 1997-98 Boston Bruins rookie season game-used stick. Joe has added the number “6” he wore with the Bruins at the outset of his stellar NHL career to his black marker signature on the now-bare Louisville TPS wood blade insert with “Thornton” stamped on the front edge. Joe’s white tape job is intact on the knob of this Easton Ultra Lite Graphite two-piece composite gamer, which exhibits nice game use in the form of nicks and scuffs on the shaft. (Paper lable taped to the front of the shaft with “Joe Thornton Rookie” written in red marker was likely added by a collector.) Thornton has added the #19 he later switched to on his black marker signature of a 10x8 photo of himself in action as captain of the Bruins. The signed photo is mounted in a black-and-gold double matte mounted in an 18” x 14 ½” black frame which features a plaque with his name, number and “Boston Bruins” engraved on it and a Bruins pin set in cutouts along the bottom.
