Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011

Vintage Sandow uniform dates back to the early 1980s when the company was attempting to persuade the Hartford Whalers to switch from Goodmans as the maker of their team uniforms. This heavy white mesh is crested and numbered up for Gordie Howe who finished his career with the NHL Whalers in 1979-80. Sandow successfully landed Hartford as a client a couple of seasons later and this wonderful example is a prototype or salesman sample from the period. Devoid of any neck tagging, the jersey does have the SandowSK logo screened onto the tail and everything is sewn on including the "Pucky" whales at the shoulders. A peek inside reveals a vintage-style garter fight strap.
