Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011

The Chicago Cougars pounced on the Windy City at the start of the 1972-73 season. This first-year style World Hockey Association Cougars game-worn jersey, initially worn by Andre Gill in 1972-73, was later recycled for use by Cam Newton in 1973-74. The lower hem displays a Rawlings size 48 tag and additional Gunzo's of River Forest tagging and everything is sewn on including the wonderful and vivid chain-stitched crest. The nameplate holds screened lettering and ghostly thread lines and a team repairs appears, evidence of a former plate which appears to have been slightly smaller. A few marks and areas of staining add to the game wear but the shirt has been very well-preserved. A prefect example of a uniform from the defunct franchise's inaugural season.
