Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011

Jean Beliveau had plenty to celebrate in the spring of 1965 as he helped put the Montreal Canadiens back on top of the hockey world. Le Gros Bill became the inaugural winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as the NHL’s first playoff MVP as he led the Canadiens to their first Stanley Cup since the end of the 1950s dynasty’s record run of five straight championships. Jean has added the notation “Thanks Maurice” to his elegant silver sharpie signature on this outstanding modern 14” x 11” print of him shaking hands with the retired Rocket with the Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup displayed in front of him on a table in the Habs’ dressing room at the old Montreal Forum. A silver-colored plaque which reads “#4 Jean Beliveau, Montreal Canadiens” is set in the bottom of the black-and-white double matte with white accents which surrounds the photo, all displayed in a 22 1/8” x 18 1/4” black frame.
