Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Always intriguing are National Hockey League Standard Players Contracts from decades ago, especially when they include the signatures of hockey legends combined with details of the comparatively miniscule amounts of money that star players of the day played for! This four-page, two-sided document reveals that Oilers' all-star goaltender Grant Fuhr earned a base salary of $150,000 for the 1986-87 season, a year in which he held the fort all the way to a Stanley Cup win. Fuhr finished his career with 226 wins and a Vezina nod. The contract's reverse includes nice bold flowing blue ballpoint signatures of two Hall-of-Famers, Grant Fuhr and Oilers General Manager Glen Sather. Dated February 21, 1987, the document covers four seasons from 1986-87 through 1989-90.
