Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Exciting lot of paper ephemera from the woman who donated the trophy awarded annually to "the player who combines a high level of play with sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct" in the National Hockey League. Lady Evelyn Byng, Viscountess Byng of Vimy, signed at the bottom of the classic photographic Christmas card from Thorpe Hall, circa 1934. Her signature is quite rare and this one is in flowing blue pen ink. Also comes with another card from the same address, this one facsimile signed by both Lord and Lady Byng. More paper items in the lot that are attributed to the Byngs include a passenger list from the RMMV Carnarvon Castle ship that lists the pair among the First Class travelers, a menu from the ship dated Feb. 10, 1930, another cruise menu from their 1931 voyage to Kingston, Jamaica and a photographic foldout titled "Home of the Movie Stars" saved by Lady Byng from her 1931-32 tour of California. The collection has been preserved in very good to excellent condition, overall.
