Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Every once in a while something, or someone, extra special comes along and that was the case in the 1960s when a boy named Bobby Orr was spotted as a 12-year old playing hockey for his hometown Parry Sound, Ontario team. A few years later, after a stellar junior career with the Oshawa Generals, Bobby arrived on the NHL scene and proceeded to live up to all the advance star billing. Orr appeared on his first hockey card in 1966-67, with this example of card #35 from Topps' famous "television" set falling into the aforementioned "extra special" realm. We're sure that the thought of owning one of the highest graded Bobby Orr rookie cards is one that appeals to all serious collectors of primo material. Beckett has deemed this one worthy of NM-MT 8 status, rendering it difficult-to-hope-for-nicer. To give you an idea, over at PSA, that company's population report shows that only one Orr RC has ever received a higher grade (Mint 9), with (40) at NM-MT 8. This rookie card of the young man who set numerous unheard of hockey precedents - imagine, a defenceman winning the scoring championship(!) - is a prize that will enhance an important card collection to great heights. Good luck with this exceptional opportunity.
