Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Absolutely phenomenal collection of Chex cereal photos has been years in the works and is the likes of which we won't likely see again any time soon. "Do you have any Chex photos?" is a question dealers are often asked and the response is usually, "sorry, as you likely know, they're pretty tough." The collection is virtually complete, with only the super-elusive Denis Dejordy example not checked-off our consignor's checklist. Cut from boxes of "Wheat Chex", they're actually big cards on cardboard stock and measure approximately 5" by 6-3/4". Condition is top-notch too, with not many visible creases or rough cuts. There are duplicates of Hull and Pilote and a total of 30 Montreal Canadiens, 19 of them with more of a reddish tint. Two variations of both B?liveau and Rousseau are present. Two variations of Punch Imlach's "Hockey Tips" booklets are included, along with three extra photos (Pronovost, Vasko, Maki) that still have part of the surrounding box visible. Also, three plastic frames, offered through a mail-in promotion. Down-right rare is a Bob Baun photo on paper stock, the type of which is believed to have been available on bags of Ralston Purina pet food. A similar Bob Nevin photo exhibits trimming. So then, all totalled, there are 70 photos, two others on paper stock, three with part of the box, two booklets and three frames, for 80 pieces - WOW! Please do not hesitate to call to discuss this astonishing ensemble which may be subject to a silent reserve.
