Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
A fine offering of Canadiana here with these scarce little treasures that feature various athletes who were prominent in Canada in the 1920s and available in packages of confectionery, notably chocolate bars, manufactured by the Dominion Chocolate company. The bottom part of each card could be cut off and full 60-count sets of the little coupons could be redeemed for prizes like a hockey puck, football, baseball glove, hockey stick, etc., rendering cards still with coupons mighty scarce. This fantastic find features plenty of duplication with nine different of the possible eleven hockey players. Leading the way are two crease-free EX+ to EX-MT examples of Ken Doraty of Toronto Maple Leaf overtime fame, at the time a member of the Toronto Millionaires. Four low grade Doraty cards, an EX Dunc Munro and 16 other hockey cards (7 different and mostly lower than VG) round out the pucksters, with the rest from the world of track & field, boxing, golf, swimming and speedskating. Majority are in lower grades with 41 different, and again, plenty of "doubles". Fantastic dealer lot!
