Scarce and immensely-important helmet marks a milestone in the career of one of the game's most talented stars. This photo-matched game worn helmet was worn by Mario Lemieux for two seasons in 1995-96 & 1996-97, including playoffs. Among his 69 goals in 1995-1996 was his 500th career NHL goal. This well-documented helmet is photo-matched to Lemieux celebrating his 500th career NHL goal on Oct 26, 1995 against the New York Islanders, video-matched to the April 24, 1996 Playoff Game against Washington and photo-matched to several photos from his final game on April 26, 1997 before his first retirement, a game where the Pens were eliminated from the 1997 Playoffs by the Philadelphia Flyers. Distinguishable marks include scratches to the white JOFA lettering and the "66" on the front of the helmet, with a distinctive tape residue precisely to the left of the twin sixes and the bottom quarter of the second "6" worn away. Damage to one of the ear pieces does not detract from the historical importance of the piece. Comes with a letter of authenticity from Casey Samuelson of Penguins Chronicles and a DVD holding the digital and video matches.
