Marvelous memento from the very early 1950s, this wool Chicago Black Hawks sweater is crafted in that striking barber-pole style. A three-layer tackle twill team crest on the chest holds chain-stitched letters and a diminutive Indian-head logo using the same stitching in black, red, green and gold. According to the accompanying LOA from MeiGray, "Characteristics of this sweater are consistent with other early 1950's game-worn Chicago Black Hawks sweaters we have examined" and they make note of the Rayson Sports tag and the size "48" fly tag that are affixed to the lower inner hem. The right sleeve exhibits more than a dozen team repairs with 9 more over on the other arm. An additional 10 repairs can be found on the front and flipping the shirt over reveals 4 more repairs. Interesting that a 2" by 5" swatch has been removed from the double inner hem and used to form the backing of a team repair on the left sleeve! Possible wearers include Sid Finney, Jim Peters, Fred Hucul and American Hockey League superstar Fred Glover. Included are the detailed letter of authenticity from MeiGray Vintage and their certificate of registration. Please note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
