Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011

In 1972, Gerry Cheevers went undefeated in 33 consecutive games, a NHL record that still stands to this day. He was a member of both the 1970 and 1972 Stanley Cup winning teams, gaining a reputation as a driven, "money" goaltender. The eye-catching glimmer of 17 hefty diamonds surrounded by the words "Boston Bruins World Champions" forms the top of this regal ring. Manufactured in 14K white gold by Balfour, one shank features a raised image of the Earl of Derby's Cup with the words "1972 NHL, Stanley Cup Champions, Boston 4 - NY 2". Opposing shank has a raised Prince of Wales Trophy below "G. Cheevers" with scrolled "League Champions" and "30". In fantastic condition, obviously worn only for special occasions. This is the very ring that was presented to Hall-of-Fame netminder Gerry Cheevers following the Boston Bruins Stanley Cup win in 1972. Purchased directly from Gerry Cheevers in 1995. Comes with a detailed letter of authenticity that outlines the solid provenance. Also included in the lot is a striking, professionally-framed and autographed photographic image of the famous Cheevers mask that measures out to a complete size of 27 x 32 inches.
