This incredible photo-matched Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion jersey may very well be the only white New York Rangers gamer the Hall of Fame right wing ever wore! The second player to score 50 goals in a season, Bernie had two Art Ross trophies and six Stanley Cups to his credit when he retired from the Montreal Canadiens following the 1963-64 season. After a coaching stint with the Quebec Aces failed to lead to a call to do the same job with the Canadiens, the Boomer made his NHL comeback with the Rangers in 1966, playing two seasons before moving behind the bench. Bernie was on his way to a 17-goal, 42-point season in his Broadway Blueshirts debut when he was pictured wearing this Rangers white jersey on the cover of the May 1967 issue of "Sportorama". The blue-and-red double twill "R" in the diagonal "Rangers" across the front of this vintage tie-neck beauty offers a solid match to this photo. A vertical piece of blue thread that is firmly in place across the top of the blue twill in the "R" is clear to see in the photo of Geoffrion wearing this number "5" jersey on the cover of the French language sports magazine. More positive matches include the tightly closed "G" on the front, the shape of the blue twill numbers on the sleeves and the wobbly white-thread stitching on the outside edge of the blue-white-and-red bands on the left shoulder yoke, as well as the straight line in the same location on the right shoulder. The drop-shadow style blue-and-red double twill number "5" sewn on the back is also consistent with a number of photos of Geoffrion in action with the Rangers. There is no tagging in the neck and stitching on the left side of the "65" born tag inside the rear hem has let go. A size "46" tag to the right remains stitched in place. To note is what appears to be white paint near the tags on the inside bottom of the tail as well as on the red and blue bands on the left front tail. Right elbow displays great red and blue paint transfer. Small spotted stains appear under the right arm with a couple more stains on the right front and to the right of the color bands on the bottom edge of the front of the left sleeve. A rare find indeed for Hall of Fame/Rangers collectors, one that will appeal to a variety of jersey enthusiasts.
