Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
The late Wilfred "Bucko" McDonald's vintage dedicated signature graces the bottom right corner of this framed photo of him in uniform with the Toronto Maple Leafs. McDonald, who converted 10-year-old Bobby Orr to a defenseman as a minor hockey coach in Parry Sound, Ontario, had already won back-to-back Stanley Cups with Detroit in 1936 and 1937 when he claimed a third Cup as a member of the 1942 Leafs, who came back with four straight wins over the Red Wings after falling behind 3-0 in the finals. "To Helen, Stewart and Bill with Best Wishes, Sincerely, ?Bucko' McDonald" reads the black fountain pen signature on this 14x10 photo of McDonald, a former member of the Canadian House of Commons who died in 1971. To note are a number of creases on the surface that do little to diminish its display in its slightly larger black wood frame.
