Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011

Intriguing original document dates back to October of 1962 and was the Maple Leafs' response to the Black Hawks' famous offer of a million dollars for Frank Mahovlich. The Big M had scored 33 times in 1961-62 and inked this deal on October 6th, agreeing to a four-year pact worth a total of $100,000! The interesting bonus clauses include "$500 if he scores 25 goals," "$100 for each goal over 25" and "$500 if Leafs take 14 or more points from Canadiens." We're not sure about the latter but Mahovlich did collect some bonus dollars, tallying 36 goals in '62-63, helping Toronto to the second of three straight Stanley Cups. Long, double-sided document features the blue ballpoint signatures of Mahovlich and Punch Imlach on the reverse and is a must for Big M/contract collectors.
