Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
No fewer than four men who would wind up in the Hockey Hall of Fame signed this NHL Standard Player's Contract between George Armstrong and the Toronto Maple Leafs. After two-and-a-half seasons in Toronto, this double-sided document reveals that Armstrong was paid $8,500 for the 1954-55 campaign. Armstrong's Falconbridge, Ontario hometown is listed on the back, below where he and Leafs' GM Hap Day applied blue ballpoint signatures, with that of "witness" King Clancy appearing vertically to the left. Dated September 21, 1954 and also signed on the front by NHL president Clarence Campbell in bold fountain pen ink, the document awaits a big-time Armstrong/Leafs/contract shrine.
