Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
After three seasons with the Maple Leafs' AHL Pittsburgh Hornets farm team, 22-year-old Tim Horton was deemed ready for the NHL by Leafs' brass, who offered the rugged rearguard this, his first big league contract. Document reveals that $7,000 is what Horton earned when he began to forge his legacy as one of the toughest, strongest and most durable defensive defencemen in history. A clause, which never needed to be included again, called for a $5,000 salary if Horton was sent back to the minors. The signatures of Leaf legends Horton, Hap Day and Joe Primeau (twice) are at the bottom of the back of the document, which looks to have been erroneously dated "December," since the stamp on the front is "Sep 30 11 14 AM '52." Just above is where a fourth HOFer, Clarence Campbell, penned his signature. What a piece for Horton enthusiasts!
