Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
An important era in New York sports history came to an end on February 11, 1968 as the Rangers played their final game at the "old" Madison Square Garden, (a 3-3 tie with Detroit), before moving into their new and current digs at Pennsylvania Plaza. That's the date engraved on this Revere pewter beer mug presented to Maurice Richard, one of 59 hockey immortals invited to take part in pre-game festivities and ceremonies. It was regarded as the greatest collection of hockey talent ever assembled in one place! "Guest of Honor" and "Madison Square Garden" also appear on the memento. It exhibits tarnish and wear and has a cracked glass bottom but would likely clean up nicely. Obtained from the family of Maurice Richard, with an LOA to be included.
