Stunning and solid bronze sculpture of Montreal Canadiens icon Maurice Richard was produced in limited quantities in 1999, not long before his death sent the hockey world into mourning. This statue was part of a series of sculptures produced for fundraising purposes on behalf of the Maurice Richard Foundation two years after a bronze monument of the Rocket was unveiled. The limited edition number "900/999" is stamped between Richard's skates on the rear of the bronze base. The sculpture, set on a diamond-shaped granite base which measures approximately 7" by 16", features a bronze piece of "ice" that includes the legend's engraved facsimile autograph, along with "ne jamais abandonner" and the translated "never give up". The look on the face of the founder of the NHL's 500-goal club is, of course, a serious one as he carries the puck on the blade of his CCM stick, his legendary number 9 displayed on the back of his Canadiens sweater. With a total height of just over 9", this exquisite piece is one that can be displayed at various angles, all offering a superb image of the incomparable Rocket.
