Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Hockey historians will love this lot of 23 original Madison Square Garden program inserts for games involving the New York Rangers from the late 1920s to the outset of the 1930s. From the family of Leo Bourgault, the late NHL defenseman who was a member of the Rangers' first Stanley Cup champions in 1928, these vintage four-page inserts feature team lineups on the cover. All exhibit handling, including creases, small tears, frayed edges and water stains, but they are all complete and intact. Three are from 1927-28 regular season games against the Bruins, Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Pirates. A March 21, 1929 lineup insert from the Rangers' series-clinching 1-0 double OT playoff win over the Americans is featured among five inserts from 1928-29. A pair of inserts from the Rangers' March 23, 1930 playoff game against Ottawa are featured among 13 from 1929-30, which includes two from the January 23 game against the Senators. The Amerks were the home team in one of three inserts for games between the co-tenants, with along with individual inserts for games against the Habs, Sens, Black Hawks, Pirates and Leafs. Rounding out the lot is a pair of inserts from the November 23, 1930 game against the ill-fated Philadelphia Quakers. This lot comes with an LOA signed by the Bourgault family.
