Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
Czech-born Vaclav Nedomansky defected in 1974 to Toronto via Switzerland and for three years played for the local Toros of the World Hockey Association and later for the Birmingham Bulls. 'Big Ned', won the WHA's Paul Deneau Trophy in 1976 for most gentlemanly player and followed it up with another career move, transferring to the NHL and playing for Detroit, the New York Rangers and St. Louis. A massive bronze hockey glove sits atop the substantial square black wooden base of this annual award. The engraved metal plaque reads "Paul Deneau Award Most Gentleman Player 1975-76, Vaclav Nedomansky, World Hockey association". Individual player awards from the WHA do not surface often and this impressive and attractive 17-inch trophy from the defunct league is in very good to excellent condition and will come with a letter of authenticity signed by Vaclav Nedomansky.
