Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
There was no bigger hockey star in Czechoslovakia in the late-1960s and into the '70s than Vaclav Nedomansky, a scoring machine who was a perennial goal and point leader of the Czech "Extraliga". The 1971-72 season was extra special as Nedomansky won the Czech scoring championship with 35 goals and 56 points in 36 games, helped his national team to an Olympic bronze medal and then contributed to one of the most stunning victories over the powerful Soviets - at the '72 World Championships. In Sapporo, Nedomansky's fired eight goals and three assists in six games as Czechoslovakia settled for third behind the Russians and Americans. His bronze medal, which can be easily detached and re-attached to the original ribbon, features a handsome patina and is in excellent condition, exhibiting minor tarnish and no other mentionable flaws. The blue velvet box is in difficult-to-expect-nicer condition and also contains an accompanying Olympic lapel pin. Highly desirable piece of international hockey history was recently obtained directly from Mr. Nedomansky and will come with his signed letter of authenticity. Outstanding!
