Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2011
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/29/2011
We're extremely excited to offer the hobby this shocking piece of Olympic Games' ice hockey history, won by, and obtained directly from, one of Europe's all-time greatest players. Vaclav Nedomansky was just 23 when he helped his native Czechoslovakia to this silver medal at the 1968 Olympics in Grenoble, France, the Czechs fashioning a 5-1-1 record to finish just behind the Russians and ahead of Canada. Nedomansky, already a scoring champion with HC Bratislava of the Czech elite league which he led in '66-67 with 41 goals and 70 points in 36 games as a rookie, did his part in Grenoble, scoring five goals and setting up two others. Vaclav's first Olympic medal has been stored for decades in its original blue velvet-lined near mint box and is thus in excellent condition, with only some light scratches to mention. With vibrant colors, the ribbon is held beneath the velvet. An image of a hockey player and "Hockey Sur Glace" appear on the reverse. Killer keepsake will be accompanied by an LOA signed by the great Vaclav Nedomansky.
