Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/16/2010
Two portraits of Jacques Laperriere are central to this unique lot of artwork. The first portrait was used for a series of promotional plastic specialty drinking cups from the Steinberg’s grocery store chain in the mid-1960s. One of those cups is included in this lot, as is, along with the original portrait which was framed and presented to Laperriere. The pastel artwork features a portrait of the Hall of Fame defenceman on the right side of the image, with Lappy in an action pose on the left hand side and a Canadiens logo glued into the upper left corner. Presented in a 23” x 15 ½” gold frame, it is mounted on red velvet within a 31” x 24” black wood frame. The other 9 ½” x 11 ½” portrait of Laperriere from a day in his honor in his hometown of Rouyn in 1966 is presented in a 19” x 21” wood frame. A pin from Jacques Laperriere Day and a letter dated June 28, 1966 from the organizing committee is accompanied by a blank copy of the committee’s letterhead and envelope. A copper etching of a factory scene in Rouyn-Noranda completes this intriguing collection that comes with Lappy's LOA.
