Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/16/2010
A swell piece of international and Canadian hockey history is this silver medal presented to Tom Campbell, captain of Team Canada, at the 1954 IIHF World Championships in Sweden. Canada had boycotted the 1953 tournament and sent, admittedly, a lesser team when it returned in '54. The East York Lyndhurst, the senior B amateur champion, still was able to take care of most of the competition, but lost 7-2 in the final to the Russians, who won their first World Championship. Heavy silver medal is made of bronze (with "Bronze" stamped on the edge) and features a raised image of a goaltender on the front, the maker's name and "1954", while the International Ice Hockey Federation's name (in French and English) and it's logo appears on the back, along with "2e". From Tom Campbell's estate, in excellent condition and in its original burgundy presentation box. Nice!
