Vintage Canadian Olympic gold from the very first Winter Games tournament in 1924 is at hand. This sensational and historic souvenir stick is signed by members of the gold medal Canadian hockey team that competed in the inaugural Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix. This 85-year-old marvel features the original autographs of deceased Hall-of-Famers Hooley Smith, Harry Watson and William Hewitt. After claiming gold when ice hockey was introduced to the Olympics as a demonstration sport in the 1920 Games in Antwerp, Canada once again established its dominance on the international stage four years later in France when the amateur Toronto Granites won the gold medal on behalf of the country at the first Olympic Winter Games. The two-time defending Allan Cup champion Granites opened the eight-team Olympic tournament with three straight wins over Sweden, Switzerland and Czechoslovakia by a combined score of 83-0! Great Britain finally broke the Granites' shutout streak but Canada easily prevailed in its 19-2 semi-final win. The Canadian amateurs completed their overpowering performance with a 6-1 win over the United States in the final. This vintage stick has "Spalding Autograph" printed on the back of the bare blade. "Olympic (Granites) Worlds Amateur Hockey Champions 1924" appears in green letters on a white background along the shaft. Cyril Slater, Ernie Collett, Bert McCaffrey and Beattie Ramsay have signed in the first column at the toe of the blade. "With Best Thanks" heads the next column followed by the signatures of Johnny Brackenborough, Smith (17 goals and 16 assists), Watson (37 goals) and Jack Cameron. Hewitt, coach Frank Rankin and Harold McMunn have signed the next column over and Dunc Munro (16 goals) has signed alone on the heel. This vintage souvenir stick was tastefully prepared with precise green lettering on a white background. The signatures on the blade remain in excellent condition, particularly considering their age. An incredible display opportunity awaits its honored place in your international/Olympic hockey collection!
