50 seconds left ... 45 seconds ... 40 seconds. Phil Esposito skated hard into the Soviet's zone, with Henderson and Cournoyer not far behind. Esposito passed the puck to Cournoyer. Cournoyer took a shot and missed. Henderson made a wild stab for the puck, but fell on his stomach. 37 seconds left...glancing up at the clock, Henderson quickly got back up and headed straight to the front of the net. He picked up the loose puck, spun and shot. The red light came on. Henderson had scored! Henderson had scored for Canada! The image is fixed and familiar? Yvan Cournoyer and Paul Henderson embracing to celebrate the most famous goal in hockey history. Offered is Yvan Cournoyer's game worn red Team Canada uniform from the incredible 1972 Canada vs. Russia Summit Series. The familiar Team Canada uniforms from the historic international tournament, worn for all four games played on Canadian soil, are seldom offered and recent sales of game worn examples have reached record price levels. This striking heavy knit sweater features a stylistic maple leaf rising up from the waist in white. The number "12" is sewn onto the back beneath the word "CANADA" in white, single-layer tackle twill. The manufacturer's black and gold "Tricot Sport Maska" tag is stitched into the collar beside remnants of another tag, long since removed. This one, worn by Cournoyer, has been altered to his specifications. The waist has been hemmed up to make the shirt shorter (shown in action shots from the games), the cuffs have been cut short and the inside layer of red material beneath the white Maple Leaf has been trimmed out to make the jersey lighter. We have also seen this customization on a few other game worn jerseys from the Series. Game wear is immediately obvious with dozens of stick marks and slashes littering the lower front and arms. The v-neck has been torn and repaired and pilling appears inside the sleeves at the seams. Destined to be the showpiece of a great international hockey collection, this Hall-of-Fame-worthy jersey is simply stunning. Please note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve. Comes complete with a letter of authenticity signed by Yvan Cournoyer.
