Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/16/2010
Sensational piece for a Lord Stanley collection, this 2" bronze medal in its original dark-blue leather-covered box features the highly detailed raised images of "The Earl of Derby K.G. Guild Mayor of Preston and the Countess of Derby". The right to hold a Guild Merchant was first granted in 1179 and the world-famous Preston Guild celebrations are always marked by the production of special souvenirs. This one was struck in 1902 and features the Derby Coat of Arms on the reverse. Preserved in outstanding condition, with an excellent box, it is a piece rarely offered.
