Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010

Magnificent three-piece silver tea service was presented to defenceman Jean-Guy Talbot to commemorate the Montreal Canadiens' Stanley Cup win in 1956. Montreal was back on top of the hockey world as they claimed the Cup in their sixth straight appearance in the final. The Canadiens had lost four of the previous five finals, including each of the previous two in seven games to Detroit, with a 1953 win over Boston the only bright spot. The tide began to turn in 1955-56 as the Habs became the first team to record 100 points with league MVP Jean Beliveau winning the scoring title. The big center carried his fantastic play over into the playoffs as the Habs defeated both the Rangers and Red Wings in 5-game series. These silver-plated tea sets were presented to Talbot and his teammates. The highlight here is the engraved teapot which reads "National Hockey League - League Champions and Stanley Cup Winners - 1955-56 - Club De Hockey Canadien Inc. - Jean-Guy Talbot". A small indentations on the right side of the front of the teapot's lid is to mention. Overall the 3-piece set is in excellent condition, just in need of polishing to remove its tarnish. From the season that started a record dynasty, this sensational lot is a remarkable opportunity to own a piece of hockey history from one of the greatest teams to ever hit the ice.
