Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/16/2010
A gorgeous card of Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe, leads this set of 66 cards released by the Topps company during the 1959-60 season. Other than less-than-perfect centering, we can't spot a single flaw - this looks like it was pulled from a pack yesterday! The Terry Sawchuk is also pack-fresh and at least NRMT. Meanwhile, although the other cards look to be in similar primo condition at first glance, close inspection reveals that most were "dinged" either once or twice along the right border, resulting in minor "notching", and at times a small light crease about three-quarters of the way down. The Bobby Hull exhibits one very light notch but is crease-free and otherwise NRMT. Glenn Hall also falls into this category, while cards like the Howe which escaped the "whack" and which are at least NRMT are 2-Pilote, 3-Vasko, 8-Delvecchio (back stain), 20-Howell, and commons 25, 41, 43 and 52. We'll refrain from putting a grade on the remainder; they show wonderful original gloss, vivid colors and generally sharp cornerss and will display better than they technically grade.
