Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010

Bolstered by the image of the incomparable Bobby Hull and his always-coveted rookie card, this 1958-59 Topps complete set is for the most part in nice uniform condition, with the vast majority of the cards in the EX, EX+ and EX-MT grades. The almost standard less-than-perfect centering, along with very light touches at the corners are the only flaws in the key Hull card, which we see as EX-MT, or at least EX+. Gordie Howe is perfectly centered and EX-MT, while Terry Sawchuk has a sizeable corner crease and is VG+. Gum/wax stains, albeit removeable, affect Bucyk, Hall and Ullman (OC), with Shack RC (VG-EX) and Lindsay also off-centered. Delvecchio is NRMT or very close to it. Number 1-Armstrong is severely off-centered and VG-EX. Not making the EX, EX+ or EX-MT grades are numbers 11, 15, 18, 21-Bathgate and 28, which are creased and no better than VG. Just a few upgrades thus are required to make this a solid, good-looking-across-the-board EX to EX-MT ensemble and a terrific addition to a vintage cardboard collection.
