Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010

Exquisite championship season Penguins jersey was worn by forward Ken Priestlay during the 1991-92 campaign that led to Pittsburgh's second straight Stanley Cup win. No lack of patches adorning this beauty of a Pens gamer as the jersey featured not one, not two, but three different sewn-on crests. The "Badger 1931-1991" on the left shoulder honors head coach Bob Johnson, who lost his battle with cancer prior to the start of the 1991-92 season after leading the Penguins to their first Stanley Cup the previous spring. The Penguins' 25th anniversary crest sewn on the right shoulder is very similar in look to the NHL 75th anniversary patch on the right breast that was worn league-wide that season. Maska and size 50 fly tags remain in the neck of this white Penguins home jersey with twill letters and numbers, and a great embroidered Penguins crest sewn on the front. Dried blood spots dot the front of the jersey which exhibits a few small team repairs on the sleeves. Though he did not make a playoff appearance, Priestlay's 49 regular season games allowed his name to be engraved on the Stanley Cup along with the likes of Lemieux, Jagr, Barrasso, Mullen and Francis.
