Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010

Great "What If?" piece here is a Team Canada 1991 Canada Cup jersey prepared for Mario Lemieux in the event that Le Magnifique was miraculously able to take part in the international showcase. Alas, there would be no repeat of the magic produced by Super Mario and Wayne Gretzky four years earlier as Lemieux was unable to play because of the back problems that plagued the Pittsburgh Penguins superstar throughout the 1990-91 season. "M Lemieux" is spelled out in white twill letters sewn onto a red nameplate and his #66 is also sewn on in white twill. (Claude Lemieux took part in Team Canada's camp, though he did not play in the 1991 Canada Cup.) The distinctive rubberized white Canada crest on the front has some cracks, though no significant loss to report. A Labatt "Coupe Canada Cup" patch is sewn onto the right breast and rubberized white maple leafs appear on each sleeve. The jersey's fight strap is intact and a CCM logo is embroidered onto the right rear tail. This great Team Canada jersey remains ready for action as ever, a great opportunity for Lemieux/jersey/international hockey/Hall of Fame enthusiasts.
