Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010

Phenomenal minor league wool sweater from the 1940s saw active duty for the Kansas City Pla-Mors of the United States Hockey League. A hand-me-down from the Pla-Mors' NHL parent, Chicago, this recycled Black Hawks jersey enjoyed a second life with the USHL Pla-Mors, who won the league title in each of their first two of four seasons from 1945-46 to 1948-49. Pla-Mors NHL alumni include HOFers Bert Olmstead, Emile Francis and Bill Gadsby, as well as Al Rollins and Leo Reise. This battle tested black wool beauty features the distinctive black-red-and-white stripes worn by the parent Black Hawks in the 1940s. A wondrous number "9" in white-on-red satin-like material is stitched to the back. While numerous holes are apparent throughout the jersey, an intrictate team repair is located on the front right shoulder seam. There are three tags sewn in the inner rear hem (left hip). A Wilson tag is joined by size 42 and "Dry Clean Only" fly tags. The front of the jersey has no crest and we do not observe any trace of the original's removal, which is typical of wool of this vintage. Great stick marks remain plain to see on the bottom front of this fabulous wool creation. A gorgeous 1940s minor league wool sweater that will interest vintage jersey enthusiasts.
