Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010

The revolution was launched when Bobby Orr hit the ice with the Boston Bruins as an NHL rookie in 1966-67 wielding this Northland Custom Pro wood stick. Bobby recorded 13 goals and 41 points to claim the Calder Trophy. He also finished runner-up to Harry Howell in voting for the Norris Trophy, which he would go on to win each of the next eight seasons as he reinvented the defenceman's role. "Orr" is stamped on the shaft of this rare rookie gamer with "Lie No5" and "Left" stamped beneath Bobby's original taped knob, a much more raw and crude job than the ribbed grip that evolved over subsequent seasons into his signature look. Four bands of black tape at the toe of the slightly curved blade are style matched to a rookie season photo. "Davenport's Super Service" is stamped on the back of the shaft just above the three black bands around the bottom of the shaft. Johnny Bucyk's signature in blue ink just above where "Glass Fused" is stamped on the front of the shaft is the most prominent of a few very faded autographs.
