After playing the WHA's final season with the Birmingham Bulls, 20-year-old defenceman Gaston Gingras wore this jersey while making his NHL debut with the Montreal Canadiens in 1979-80. Gingras contributed 10 points in 34 regular season games with the Habs and added seven more in 10 playoff games as the four-time Stanley Cup champions saw their bid for a fifth straight title come to an end with a seven-game loss to Minnesota. Maska Superfill tag remains in the neck of Gingras' #2 Canadiens home jersey, which exhibits distinctly reddish discoloration. A nameplate has clearly been removed from the back of the jersey. Superb game use is evident with plenty of red paint transfer on the left sleeve, which also features 10 team repairs, with three more equipment staff sewing fixes on the right sleeve. The original garter-type fight strap remains intact and a small blue Maska logo is embroidered onto the right rear tail. One of the last players to wear the #2 before it was retired in Doug Harvey's honor in 1985, Gingras took #29 - also since retired for Ken Dryden - when he returned to the Canadiens later in the 1980s.
