Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010

Always special are the opportunities to acquire a jersey donned by goaltending great Patrick Roy, with this shirt from just about smack dab in the middle of Patrick's memorable 11-year tenure with the Montreal Canadiens. The Hall-of-Famer already had a Conn Smythe Trophy, three Jennings trophies and two Vezinas to his credit when he wore this Habs red road jersey during the 1990-91 season. Roy tacked on 25 wins to his career total, on his way to eventually break Terry Sawchuk's record, and earned NHL Second All-Star Team status. He also appeared in his third of eight NHL All-Star games. Patrick's now retired number 33 jersey here has size "54" added in pen to the Maska Ultrafil tag in the neck, while NHL and CCM logos are embroidered into the rear hem. Game use includes three team repairs; a pea-size circular one on the lower right sleeve, a one-inch rectangular job in the red above the right elbow, and a one-inch oval-shaped one in the upper red of the left sleeve. A black mark in the lower white stripe of the left sleeve, some staining near the left cuff and light pilling at the cuffs are also noteworthy. Pulled-on by one of Montreal's and hockey's finest clutch performers, this jersey is sure to please its new proud owner and augment the importance of your Patrick Roy/Hall of Fame jersey shrine. Further research on this jersey and the amazing photo match accompanying this listing indicate the jersey was most likely worn during the 1989-90 NHL playoffs and not during the 1990-91 season as indicated in the auction catalogue. The jersey is photo matched to the black mark in the lower white stripe of the left sleeve as well as the white material in the first "3" of "33" on the left sleeve as well. The black mark can clearly be seen on the two black & white photos while the white material in the "3" is more noticeable in the color photo.[/red]
