Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/16/2010
During his ascension to the National Hockey League, Grand-Mere, Quebec-born Russell Blinco spent three seasons skating for the Crescent Athletic Club of Brooklyn, helping the team to the United States Amateur Hockey Association championship in 1930-31. The Crescents, earlier that season, had taken part in the first two games ever played at the Lake Placid Olympic Stadium, dropping both games 4-2 (December 27, 28) to the Lake Placid Athletic Association team. In the National Amateur Championships in March though, Brooklyn beat Syracuse 5-2, the N.Y. Athletic Club 4-2 and, in the final at Madison Square Garden, the Atlantic City Sea Gulls 4-2 to become National champs. To commemorate their feat, team members received golden medals like this one presented to Russ Blinco. The year, "Hockey Champions" and "Crescent A.C." appear on one side, while included on the other is "Amateur Athletic Union United States", along with what appears to be the date in Roman numerals. Splendid keepsake is 3/4" in diameter, is in excellent condition and will come with a letter of authenticity from the family of Russ Blinco. Neat piece of United States' hockey history.
