Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction March 2010
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/16/2010
Wondrous and fascinating Stanley Cup mementos are the first we'ver ever seen and have been kept with pride for 75 years by former Montreal Maroon center Russ Blinco and his family. The NHL's rookie-of-the-year the previous season, Blinco centered a line with Earl Robinson and Dave Trottier and played an important part in the franchise's second and last Cup triumph in 1934-35. After taking out the Black Hawks and Rangers to reach the Cup final, the Maroons faced the favored Toronto Maple Leafs who were tops during the regular season and who had beaten Montreal in five out of six regular season meetings. It was Blinco who set up Trottier for the overtime winner in game one (3-2), after having assisted on a Robinson goal earlier in the game. Blinco then provided the winning goal in a 3-1 victory in game two, also in Toronto, before the Maroons completed their sweep back at the Forum with a 4-1 decision, setting a record of going through the playoffs in seven games without a defeat. The Maroons "M" appears on each of these intriguing cufflinks, with Blinco's "RS" initials on the other section. "Stanley Cup Champions" is engraved on the back of the "M"s, while "1935" is inscribed on the backs of the "RS" links. "Birks" and "14K" appear on the bars adjoining the two sections. Rare family heirlooms are in immaculate condition and will surely render their new owner tremendously proud. A letter of authenticity from the Blinco family will be included with these dazzling treasures.
