Beautiful light cardstock brochure contains within the schedule for the events of the Burlington, Vermont Winter Carnival held February 15th - 19th, 1886. The center section tells that the "Hockey Matches" were held on the morning of Friday, February 19th, with prizes of seven gold and seven silver medals to be awarded. This historic occasion marks the introduction of organized ice hockey to the United States and two teams from Montreal were playing at this historic event; the MAAA and the Montreal Crystals. A series of clubs and leagues along with some university teams were becoming organized and later in 1896, the United States Amateur Hockey League (USAHL) was formed. The three-fold 3 1/2'' x 8 1/4'' program is missing its right-end section and has light paper residues on the inside corners otherwise remains in excellent condition. Comes with pages of research from an article on the history of ice hockey in the United States, an historical US hockey program!
