Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
Scarce photographic image of the ultra-famous Lord Stanley, donator of the trophy that recognizes professional hockey supremacy. Camera was clicked in 1902 back in Stanley's native England after his five years in Canada as its Governor General. The approximately 7" by 9" photo is applied to a creamy cardboard mat measuring just over 10" x 14". A facsimile "Stanley of Preston" signature appears beneath the image and the "Walery Photographer" identifies the title "The Rt. Hon. Lord Stanley of Preston, C.C.B." A wondrous piece to match up with a Stanley autograph, it is in excellent condition except for a single tear that runs up from the bottom affecting five inches of the photo to the left of the image of the great man.
