Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009

Wonderful white and gold Pittsburgh Penguins home uniform worn by team captain Mario Lemieux during the 1992-93 NHL season. Mario's surname crosses the back shoulders above the historic double-sixes. The captain's "C" adorns the left breast and stylized penguins crest decorates the front. Tagged in the neck by Maska with the Ultrafil designation, marked with "66 C" by the trainer, and a size "54" fly tag off to the side. This example shows better game use than his more recently worn uniforms. At least one hundred fading black stick marks litter the front and sleeves with some burns and smaller material pulls. Areas of pilling can be found in behind the fight strap and at the inner elbows and we spot a nice team repair below the numbers on one sleeve. The NHL's 1992-93 100th Anniversary of the Stanley Cup commemorative patch sits on the right breast. A great sweater worn by one of the greatest ever to lace 'em up! Comes with not one, but two letters of authenticity from noted Penguins expert Joe Toman and Milt Byron of Byron's Hockeyland.
