Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
The fantastic Frank "King" Clancy rookie card offered here is one of the most sought-after cards from the early days of the hobby. Clancy's #3 card in the 40-card 1923-24 William Paterson V145-1 hockey card set trails only Howie Morenz's rookie card from the same set in popularity, aside from the rare and extremely elusive #25 Bert Corbeau short-run card. This beauty of Clancy RC has a diagonal crease in the upper left corner that shows through on the reverse to note, along with a vertical crease from the top right edge to the upper part of the left side of Clancy's forehead. This rare card has rounded edges, and is otherwise in very good condition, with a particular clean blank reverse. A member of Stanley Cup champions with Ottawa in 1923 and 1927, Clancy moved on to Toronto where he played a key role in the Maple Leafs' first Cup win in 1932.
