Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009

Great lot of two early pucks for the vulcanized rubber discs' collectors. This pair of Art Ross Tyer pucks feature a round rubberized orange logo that includes "Andover, Mass". At first, it was thought to be one of the original Art Ross pucks used in the NHL due to the Andover notation. The earliest NHL Art Ross gamers had the Andover notation on their octagonal logos and "Andover" was replaced by "Buffalo NY USA" in the 1940s. This puck however has the patent number, unlike the other early Andover (octagonal logo) puck, and is known to have been used in the Eastern Professional Hockey League in the late-1950s and early-'60s. One of the two offered here is in excellent plus condition while the other shows significant game use and chipping. Still, two very collectible examples of this hard-to-find puck for those of you who haven't had a chance to secure one yet.
