Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction - June 2009
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2009
Creamy wool Hawks cardigan dates back to the Sixties. This heavy coarse wool button down sweater sports the scripted tackle twill and chain-stitched Chicago Black Hawks Indian head crest on the left breast with black and red trim on the sleeves and pockets. The tomahawks appear up at each shoulder and an old Gunzo's tag sits in the collar with a size 38 fly tag to one side. All original buttons are intact and this example is in near perfect condition with some light staining. Photos from the period often show the team's coaches wearing these comfy cardigans on the bench and at practices. Interesting is the tackle twill number "21" on the right side. Perhaps this one was issued to Hawks Hall-of-Famer Stan Mikita!
